how we try.
We may joke a lot, but we ARE committed to being as sustainable as possible - mostly through the three R's!
reduce
We get our milk and eggs directly from the farm! In reusable bottles and egg cartons, or whatever container happens to be in the boot (for the eggs, not the milk...).
Our milk, which we also turn in to yogurt, is from a Beautiful farm in Launching Place, with only about 12 Jersey cows living their best life.
Our eggs are from the farm next door - what a great road! These are the happiest hens around - they have soooooo much space, and you can tell they're happy because their eggs even taste better.
For our weekly meals try to use packaging that can either be home composted (biopak), recycled or reused. We very much would love to start using re-usable packaging for our weekly meals, but at this point we lack the storage and finances to make it happen - If you are interested in setting up a weekly order with reusable packaging, please do get in touch! We would love to use you as a guinea pig.
reuse
We (Sophie) are permaculturalists.
All of our food waste goes to either the worms, chickens, guinea pigs, or Sophie's favourite - a steaming pile of hot compost. There's a surprisingly increasing amount of people around here who get excited about steaming piles of waste.
That all goes back on to the garden for the next crop of delicious home grown tomatoes (and other vegetables not as important). Unfortunately very little of what we grow is enough to cook commercially with, but at least the scraps are useful!
Much to Glens dismay, many of the ingredient containers that would normally go in to the recycle bin, end up piled in the backyard awaiting seeds and seedlings to be planted in them. Helpful tip - berry/cherry tomato containers are like their own little greenhouse! Use them to raise your seeds while it's still cold!
shop local (& recycle)
What can't be reused is recycled - our vegies are always bought home in a reused box, and that box is either used for customer deliveries, taken to the Mt Evelyn recycle centre, or used as a cubby house....
Delivery bags are recycled woolies paper bags kindly donated by customers! Thank you Natalie! Customers are welcome to return their bag each week, or use it for their own needs.

We want to support as many local businesses as we can - not only to stick it to the chains, but because their products are way better! And everyone should shop local - or we won't have any shops to shop at.
Carter Brothers - Silvan, Monbulk Butcher, Unearthed Mushrooms - Monbulk, Monbulk Woolies (it may be a big chain but to be fair - the staff there are delightful.), Little Yarra Dairy, Little Yarra Freerange Eggs, and the list is growing!

We also have bees, and A LOT of honey....
